Abutilon pictum thompsonii 1 litre plants £15.95 JP204 |
One of my favourite Abutilons with golden yellow variegated leaves and Orange lantern like flowers. I have used this plant for tropical bedding over many years as part of yellow themed displays. Over winters easily indoors and when it gets too leggy just cut it back allowing it to regrow. |

Arundo donax macrophylla 3 litre plants £17.95 JP1078 |
A tropical member of the grass family slightly hardier than the variegated form making tall 12ft stems in a season. Cold hardy maybe to -10°C. A real eye catcher if grown well. We offer a very robust form (macrophylla) with larger stems. |

Arundo donax versicolor 3 litre plants £17.95 JP409 |
A stunning tropical member of the grass family with thick stems and lovely variegation. Not quite so cold hardy or as tall (6ft) as the plain green form maybe to -8°C if the roots are covered over in winter. Two large stock plants left outside survived quite happily -10°c during the winter of 08/09. |

Asimina Triloba 1 litre plants £29.95 JP1636 |
This decorative small tree with
clusters of purple flowers in the spring, has large tropical looking
leaves and grows to about 10' tall. It is native and well known in much
of the eastern United States. It produces dark green oblong fruit 3 to 6
inches long with a pulp that tastes like vanilla custard. Harvest when
fruit color turns from green to yellow. Take out your spoon and eat.
It’s delicious. The pulp has big seeds that are easy to spoon out and
discard or plant to grow additional trees. The tree has a tap root and
grows slowly at first hardy to around -15°C They grow naturally as an
understory tree but can grow in full sun. Fruit ripens in late September
and October. |

Bartlettina sordida 3 litre plants £19.95 JP2628 |
An easy to grow, rare, semi hardy shrub for collectors of subtropicals. This Eupatorium, a relative from Mexico, forms a multi-branching shrub 8’ tall or more & blooms Autumn through to Spring where it can be kept frost free. The flower clusters are held well above the exotic foliage and look like giant Ageratum blooms. The large leaves are also beautiful, a velvety green with violet veining. The very upright stalks and stems are deep maroon/purple. Bartlettina grows quickly and thrives in bright shade & moist, rich soil. Frost tender though to about -5°C and ideal for a sheltered microclimate or as a spectacular conservatory plant. (My stock plants after a year, are 6ft tall with at least 12 large azure blue flower heads about 12" across - quite stunning for an early spring display) |

Dahlia imperialis 3 litre plants £19.95 JP692 |
If you are into pretty Dahlia flowers then this is not for you! But - if you are into giant tree size foliage then this one takes the cake. It is semi hardy and from our own experience will stand a normal winter left outside, re-growing from the root stock again in late spring the following year. In the UK probably 10ft is the best you may see in a season but in it’s natural habitat 10 metres is quite normal for 9 months growth! It does flower with pretty single pink flowers but by November the frost will probably have got there first. Has to be seen to be believed with huge 4" diameter stems and massive leaves. |

Echium pininana 3 litre plants £12.95 JP2621 |
A spectacular Echium from the Canary Islands, capable of producing a 12ft flower spike of deep blue flowers from a basal rosette of narrow hairy leaves. From my own experience it will only take -5˚C before being killed by frost but if you are in a warm area, you have to try this plant given room, and a sunny well drained position. It is really a biennial though flowering the second year after which it will need replacing. Make sure you have plenty of room for this giant! |

Echium Pink Fountain 3 litre plants £12.95 JP2622 |
This spectacular Echium is a cross between Echium pininana and wildpretii, it produces enormous 10ft, tapering towers of dainty pink flowers over large rosettes of coarse, strap-like leaves, creating a real spectacle. This plant will need some winter protection in colder areas and is only fully hardy in warm areas not taking frosts below -5C. |

Geranium maderense
Limited Availability 1 litre plants £9.95 JP1826 |

Geranium maderense is a greenhouse or conservatory pot plant for most areas of the UK, requiring a frost free position in full sun. At its peak this geranium stands 5 feet high and its inflorescence is 3 feet in diameter when flowering in late winter to late spring. This is the largest of all Geranium species, a giant aromatic plant with huge beautifully divided leaves. A spectacular short lived perennial plant if you have space for it. |

Iochroma australe 1 litre plants £18.95 JP727 |
Iochroma australis is a lovely half-hardy shrub or small tree, related to Brugmansia. It has lilac blue pendant flowers produced in abundance throughout the summer months and makes a lovely conservatory shrub. Needs pruning each spring to make a compact form and reasonably hardy with one specimen growing outside at Wisley and another in Cambridge. A trial plant in our garden came through the cold winter of 2005/6 without protection but cut to the ground. New growth in 2006 reached 4ft but flowering was late into autumn. |

A lovely clone of this well known shrub seen all over the South of France is a tough one, very tolerant of dry conditions and flowers profusely in full sun. Easily over wintered in a cool or cold greenhouse as it will take a light frost without any serious damage. |

Paulownia tomentosa
Limited Availability 3 litre plants £17.95 JP142 |
We have some 1 year old plants again if you want a head start in growing these lovely trees. Please allow 2 to 3 years planted growth if you want to coppice them giving time for the trees to become established. To our surprise the strange climatic conditions in 2008 even had some of our 1 year old seedlings come into flower. Quite strange to see an 18" flower spike on top of a 2ft tall sapling! If you have not grown these trees before you have a choice of growing for the fabulous foxglove like flower spikes in spring if you live in a mild area, or you can coppice older plants down to near the ground and be rewarded with summer growth back to 12ft to 15ft with huge 2ft leaves! |

A fabulous plant in our trials with 8ft towers of rich metallic re/purple leaves and stems. Flowers and seed pods are also a deep red/purple. Quite a stunning plant and quite rare as it was only introduced for the first time in 2005. Smaller plants if kept pot grown can also be over wintered in a heated glass house for even larger bedding out plants the following year! |
