Elephant Ears (Delivery May to Sept)
Tropical Aroids by Mail Order, this family is an interesting one both from its history in cultivation and the exotic leaves that are excellent for tropical decoration. It is a wide ranging family from 20ft giants to ground cover plants with many having edible roots and leaves. It is believed that Colocasia Esculenta has been grown as a root crop for thousands of years and is probably the first plant known to have been cultivated by mankind. We offer a small range of useful species for foliage effect. The trick with these plants is a very well drained but humus compost to allow the roots to breathe, which helps prevent root rot. |

Alocasia Aurora 1 Litre Plant £27 JP1770 |
This plant was originally collected in Bangkok in February 2004 and taken to America to be tissue cultured. 2006 is the first year that it is commercially available. A very different Alocasia with light pink stems when younger and gradually turn deeper pink/red as they grow. Tolerant of our summer cool temperatures but kept warm and frost free in winter it grows to about 3ft, but no one is sure how large it will get when pot grown. Clumping by nature it is going to be an attractive new Alocasia to grow. If you are into Aroids this must be mandatory for your collection? |

Alocasia calidora 3 Litre Plant £18 JP575 |
This cross of Alocasia gageana and Alocasia odora, originally hybridised by Lariann Garner of Aroidia Research, has huge rounded leaves similar to Odora, but much stronger growing reaching 5ft in its first season given plenty of water, food and heat. |

Alocasia macrorrhiza variegata 1 Litre Plant £39 JP454 |
A mind blowing Alocasia seen as a large 6ft plant in the Caribbean but we find it difficult to grow larger than 2ft in the UK. We have however managed to propagate a few small plants again this year for any aroid enthusiasts who want to give it a try. |

Alocasia Odora Yunnan 3 Litre Plant £27 JP431 |
A fabulous rare giant Alocasia to 10ft tall from China, this is a similar plant to Alocasia odora but with pale blue veins and blue stems now thought to be a more cold tolerant sub species of odora. Larger than odora though and often used in China for medicinal purposes. They come from a region with cold dry winters down to frost level and it is reasonably cool tolerant given a greenhouse or conservatory frost protection over winter. |

Alocasia portora 3 Litre Plant £19 JP406 |
Portora has huge slightly wavy edged leaves derived as a cross of Alocasia portei and Alocasia odora, originally hybridised by LariAnn Garner of Aroidia Research with very strong stems and trunk. Makes an imposing plant reaching 6ft in 12 months of good growth. Seems to require a more acid soil than the others to obtain a good deep green colour to the leaves. |

A few years ago we obtained a rather
different green leaved Colocasia with a long rather than round leaf from
a batch of Colocasia esculanta roots. This is a robust plant to 6ft with
large leaves and we now have a few plants available for sale. |

Colocasia esculenta Pink China 1 Litre Plant £19.95 JP2607 |
A pink stemmed Colocasia that is suggested to be hardy in the USA to zone 6. In the UK this may not be so cold tolerant without the necessary summer heat, but must be worth a try in a warm frost free protected position. |

Colocasia
illustris 1 litre large Plants £22.00 JP451 |
| A beautiful variety a bit like black magic but with deep green veines in the leaf. Unlike Black Magic the leaves turn green in full sun and is therefore best in partial shade or filtered sun. This plant loves water but a free draining compost is absolutely essential. | |||
